Wild winter weather - and we're cooking up a storm!
Edition 25 - Date 3.12.09
What a fortnight of grim stormy weather! It's Hannah writing today as this is the first opportunity Giles has had to take the trailer to Worcester to pick up our new boar - more on that later... but at least I have more than the weather to write about, with Game Day this Saturday, Christmas trees, hampers, wild boar pasties and more...

Last week saw covers ripped off polytunnels and even pig houses blown over in the strong winds - one group of piglets looked totally unperturbed in the morning, when we discovered them lying happily on what had become the floor of their house, which had formerly been the wall! Luckily only one casualty and some quick work on the part of the farm team to make sure none of the other litters had anything to worry about! On the contrary, as I write, our British Lop gilts are no doubt curling their lashes and dabbing on the Chanel No. 5 (...perhaps not..) as they await the arrival of their handsome new boar, winging his way home from Worcester with Giles tomorrow, to begin his arduous (!) task of introducing a new bloodline to our rare breed herd. Watch this space for news of new litters of piglets in the next few months.

In the meantime, the Trevaskis Market team are busily setting up for Game Day this Saturday, read on for more information, while we have risked putting up our big Christmas tree on the patio and have taken delivery of some beautiful Nobles and Norway Spruce, ready for you to do the same...

Food lovers game event at the farm..
This Saturday, join us for our annual winter food event. Game Day 2009 is set to be bigger and better than ever, with a wide variety of locally sourced British game, it's an ideal opportunity to try something new for Christmas, and a great insight into what's available from the TM butchery over the festive season.

The day is set to celebrate the very best of British game, offering an insight into some of the luxurious options available for the Christmas period. Our chefs will be on hand cooking a variety of tasters for you to enjoy, including partridge, pheasant, guinea fowl, pigeon, rabbit, wild boar and fresh venison from Tregothnan Estate.

With our experienced butcher Pete Davis on hand with his team, you can discuss your individual Christmas requirements, whether it be a local free-range organic turkey, geese, ducks - or of course you may be inspired to try a selection from the game meats you may have just sampled!

 If you would like to try cooking with game meats but, like me, need a bit of guidance, our chefs have come up with some delicious recipes for you to try so pick up a free recipe card and give it a whirl!

Even better, why not let our chefs cook it for you? If you want to taste our turkeys before you order your own for Christmas, we serve exactly the same turkeys in the restaurant as are on sale in the Market. Plus, we will be having game meats on our specials menu all weekend in the restaurant and featuring special 'guest meats' on our Sunday menu each week in addition to the usual favourites. Roast pheasant from the Tregothnan Estate made a welcome change for our Sunday regulars last week, and we're looking forward to Goose Sunday this weekend!  

James and Kim have come up trumps again with the promise of rabbit pasties and wild boar pasties - they will be warm from the oven and ready to eat but be warned they do go quickly!

In addition, Game Day provides an excellent opportunity for some of the Trevaskis Market suppliers to showcase their produce. We will be welcoming representatives from 'Choccara' (...hand made chocolates to die for - personal favourites are the 'seasalt and caramel' truffles... WOW!) and The Cornish Crisp company (crisp-aholics, you have to try these!) who will be providing tasters, while we will have further tasters across a range of our Christmas produce. Foodie heaven! Plus, if you still have your vouchers from our voucher books, now is the time to make savings on a range of seasonal goods with your December voucher, valid until the 15th. After a busy week of stocking, our shelves are dripping with beautiful and quirky Christmas gifts and decorations.

The day starts at 10am and we look forward to seeing you there...

Do you know your Noble from your Norway Spruce...?
Well, don't worry, we have both on sale in TM now. The beautiful Noble Christmas trees have the thicker branches and low needle drop, while the Norway Spruce is a more traditional looking Christmas tree.
And the beauty of buying your tree here is that we don't like to complicate things - Nobles are £28 regardless of size, while the Norway Spruce are £20 each...and selling quickly! With a wealth of Christmas decorations in stock- the sort that you won't find everywhere else!! -  it' s time to get decorating!
Christmas is coming...
Having spent many Christmases panic-buying presents at the eleventh hour (...thank heavens for 'secret santa'...) you'll be relieved to know that our TM team are much more organised and are totally ready for Christmas, but they can make life easier for you too! 

Hampers are a fantastic (hassle-free) and useful present if filled with the right gifts, so please let us design yours for you, or you can select the gifts and we'll make up the hamper. With such tanatalising titles as 'The Chocoholic', filled with edible chocolate baubles from 'Chocarra' and decorative chocolate bars from 'I Should Cocoa', what could be better? We have delicious home made puddings and pickles galore, as well as an exciting array of seaonal treats. Choose from meat, grocery or gift hampers - you decide the value and we'll help you with the components. What could be easier? I might suggest this to Giles instead of the four recipe books and chopping board he got me last year....
