Happy New Year!
Date 12-1-12
What a New Year it is turning out to be already for us! 2012 has brought two unexpected, and very, very gratefully received awards, which have in turn inspired renewed enthusiasm, to keep moving our business forward, trying out new ideas and listening to our customers to provide more of what you love best. So read on to find out all about our new TM product ranges, an exciting new business venture for 2012 and What's On in January and February...

Winners all round!
Head chefs James and Ryan were given a taste of stardom last week when they attended the Food Magazine reader awards at the Adobe Hotel in Exeter. Our homemade strawberry jam had been one of the products nominated for Best Food Product of the Year and we were shortlisted for the final three...

The chefs (once they had located the hotel..say no more) had a fantastic night and we were extremely proud for them to represent Trevaskis. They were delighted to be awarded the prize for Best Food Product and to have the opportunity to meet so many ambassadors for the food industry in the South West. It was great to get the chefs, to whom we owe so much of our continued success, there to recieve the award.

A huge thank you to the readers of Food Magazine for their support. I note the chefs have celebrated by making a huge new batch of their award-winning jam today, which can be found on-shelf in TM. Signed jars are available, I'm told (...clearly it's gone to their heads). Thank you Food Magazine readers!

We have a policy, largely established by Adele and Paul, who founded Trevaskis, and subsequently upheld by Giles and myself, that we don't tend to nominate ourselves for awards. We have always felt that continued business and loyal customers are the best accolade you can have, and thus far we are lucky to have a wealth of both, which we are hugely grateful for and constantly striving to ensure ...of course, the other, more down - to-earth reason for this is that to ensure the business stays strong and standards are upheld, we find ourselves totally absorbed and little time for much else!

So we were hugely proud to discover that we had also won another award, nominated again by our customers, with Cornwall Life magazine. This time we had been awarded Best Independent Food Retailer 2011. Unfortunately, we were unable to attend the award ceremony but Giles was delighted when two lovely ladies came to the farm to present him with the award and take his photo.

So thanks again loyal customers and readers of Food Magazine and Cornwall Life! Our trophies are now on display in the restaurant and are chefs are firmly back in the kitchen, doing what they do so well, but feel free to come and admire both!

TM shelves dripping with new product ranges!
Yes! All this award winning reminded us that we can't afford ever to stand still and that our customers want more!

So we revisited our original concepts and aspirations for Trevaskis Market, did a bit of figure - crunching to look spending trends and to give us a bit of direction, then went back to the drawing board and sourced a host of new food and household ranges (over 150 new lines so far) to provide a much more comprehensive offer for our customers. To be honest, Giles did the number-crunching bit...I usually perk up at the 'choosing-new-ranges-and-trying-things' stage, which is like retail therapy but on a massive scale! So I hope you like the products we chose!

We have focussed particularly on our household range and discovered a brilliant range called Bio-d, as well as sourcing some favourites from the Ecover range that can't be bettered at the same affordable price, and some new products from the Faith in Nature household range. I have trialled lots of the products such as stain removers, laundry liquids and so on and can vouch for them (if they can shift Trevaskis mud from Jake's jeans, they can shift most things...) but we would still appreciate any feedback or suggestions for more products or ranges you would like to see.

On the grocery front, we have had added new soups, pasta sauces, confectionary, coffee, soft drinks, dairy- free chocolate, oat milk and much more.Well worth a look!

Questionairres are available in the shop or please send us  an e-mail with your comments info@trevaskisfarm.co.uk.

You heard it here first! Launching our brand new range of delicious home-cooked treats in 2012...
One of the most exciting bits of news I have the pleasure of reporting is the launch of James' extensive range of home-cooked foods, all under our own new brand, for sale in Trevaskis Market. From pies, pastries, cakes, scones, chutneys, jams, bread - the list keeps growing the more we think about it!

James currently manages the kitchen and works daily in the patisserie section, making the amazing desserts, salads, cakes, jams and chutneys that currently we sell only a small proportion of in the farm market. So as part of our review of all that we sell in TM, we realised just how much of the produce we currently buy-in we are capable of producing in-house, if we had someone dedicated to that role. James is most definitely the man - our longest serving chef and Giles' 'right hand man' in the kitchen for many years, James worked at Rick Stein's for three years before returning to work at Trevaskis, where he has been for about twelve years.

James ideas and enthusiasm are endless, as is his ability and, sometimes less fortunately, his jokes... James has been dreaming up a launch range of favourites that we know will fly off the shelves. And that range will extend and develop as we gain more of an understanding of just what you want. There will be a dedicated section of TM, right at the front, so those fantastic smells will seduce you as you walk through the door, where the produce will be fresh daily.

The rationale behind this is the faith you have already demonstrated in our home-cooked food - when we put our home-cooked pies and pastries in the deli, they are hardly there long enough for us to replace them with the next lot! You already know what you can expect from our chefs, you can see most of the ingredients growing in our fields or roaming round them (sorry pigs...) We can also keep food miles to a minimum, likewise packaging and cost. Anything we can make will also be available to order (in fact it already is, we just haven't shouted loud enough about it yet).

So watch this space! We are meeting with designers next week with packaging and branding ideas, and the space in TM will be taking shape ready for James' team to fill early in the Spring...
