Apple Day this Sunday!
Edition 37   29/9/11

Autumn is one of my favourite times of year - not just the changing colours and the good excuse to wear jumpers and boots, but I must eat many times my recommended 'five- a- day' with the vast number of Queen Cox, Katy and Sunset I pick on my way through our laden apple orchard; a welcome sight which can only mean one thing...

...yes, our popular Apple Day and Hog Roast is happening this Sunday 2nd October from 10 am. This is a fantastic, rustic family day out celebrating the English Apple season with all things 'appley' - and there are lots of these, we have discovered. Read on to find out more...

Apple Day and Hog Roast 2011

For our  Apple Day and Hog Roast 2011 we have asked our talented team of chefs to really make the most of the glorious orchards and wealth of apples that surrounds them, combining these home grown apples with local ciders, delicate pastries and our own home-reared pork to make pies and pastries that will make your mouth water, as you walk through a vast array of around 30 varieties of apples displayed on the patio. James in the patisserie section (... one of the demi - gods who creates 'those' desserts in the restaurant...) has endless ideas for appley puddings and pies and these will all be available to buy from The Market too.

As well as this year's pressing of our own Sunset, Greensleeves and Bramley juice and our Katy and Bramley Juice, we have ciders and juices from Cornish Orchards, Polgoon, Helford Creek and Westons. We will be serving our own juice by the half pint as well as Cornish Orchards brand new ale and still cider, by the pint and half pint .

What a fantastic way to wash down your hog roast, from from our home reared herd of prize-winning, rare - breed British Lop pigs. This year, we will make sure there are some of our favourite salads from the restaurant as well as our home made Bramley apple sauce and stuffing are available to accompany your hog bap.

Hog Roast will be available from midday on Sunday

The chefs have also volunteered, once again, to do open demonstrations where they will be preparing some mouthwatering dishes for their audience to try. The chefs welcome your questions and comments while they cook.

Chefs demonstrations from 11am to 2pm

This is a great day out for families, with a free family Pumpkin Hunt that leads children round the farm - a great opportunity for them to see crops growing in the fields and the animals and their young roaming in the paddocks (hopefully to raise awareness that this is on offer to everybody for a free day out, year - round). If all our mischievious pumpkins are located and the evidence presented in TM, children will be rewarded for their efforts with a free Treleavens ice-cream. Throw in a bouncy castle, a brilliant face - painter, a 'Kiddies Corner' with colouring and 'apple dressing', strawberries and rasberries available for Pick Your Own and you have the makings of a very happy day out!

As usual our Market shelves will be laden with all the very finest from Cornish producers, plus the best of the rest from further afield. Jams and chutneys, Cornish wines and ales, locally made chocolates and confectionary as well as all our seasonal fruit and vegetables. With a glut of tomatoes, courgettes, marrows, squashes and so on, this is a great season to 'get pickling' and we have the wherewithall available in The Market. Our deli, fishmonger and butcher will be open for business as usual but with a few seasonal extras!

So please, tell everyone you know and please come and support us this Sunday from 10am. We look forward to seeing you there!

Please contact us on 01209 714009 if you would like any more information or for a Pick Your Own update.
